Cochlear's Nucleus 5

No, I haven't disappeared from the blogging world. With all of our new therapies, I've just been too busy to post lately. I'll update more on all of that at a later time, but for now I have some exciting news: William got his new processors today! He is part of a test study for Cochlear's new Nucleus 5 which, by the way, is absolutely amazing!

The headpiece is so thin and lightweight that he is able to wear it without all of the Babyworn accessories (i.e., cords and clips worn on his shoulders). And he loves it! I love it, too! Especially the remote control! I can control everything from the remote without ever having to take the processor off his ear - volume, program, alarms, troubleshooting, and SO much more!
William also really likes the remote control! Hmmm, I'll have to keep it put away!
And, possibly one of the best features: with it's IP44 protection rating (the only one in the industry, by the way) we don't even have to worry about water so much! So tonight he took his first bath...

...with sound, that is! And of course, sharks are MUCH more interesting when you can hear the tail fin flapping! Very exciting!
"O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of praise." Psalm 47:1

  1. Wow- is the Nucleus 5 really waterproof? VERY cool!!! How exciting to be part of the test study for the new processor. Now he can hear the splish splash of his bath, as well as feel it!

  3. Leah,
They won't go so far as to call it waterPROOF, but they do call it water RESISTANT. So he can play in the sprinkler, the bath, even the pool, but they won't guarantee submersion. However, if it drops in the water, they say just to pull it out and put it in the dry cell and it should be fine!

The Lord does watch over us! The "Nucleus 5", it even sounds special! How very exciting for Wiliam AND his family. Just in the comfort and mobility level it is a wonderful improvement, let alone what it actually can do to help/improve Williams hearing. And through this, others will be helped too. Can't wait to "hear" more about this. How is therapy going. Were you able to obtain the walker that was suggested at Mayo? And just so you know, I am also thinking about you and the baby....
    God Bless,
    Jill

  6. Sound processor is rated to IP57, which means that processor can be dropped into water (up to 1 meter deep) providing microphone protectors are in place. ZnAir battery module is rated to IP44.
